Children and young people can experience themselves in ways that go beyond our usual understanding of being a person. In this section, children, young people and adults share stories and art to try and show this..
As human beings, we tell stories to make sense of who we are. This can be really valuable for people like researchers who are trying to understand people. Providing that we do not mistake someone's story as a true representation of who they are. (this can sometimes happen)
Sometimes, a story can't help someone to show who they are or how they experience the world. Art can be really helpful for giving people a different way to express their sense of self and experiences that are considered 'non-conventional', 'exceptional' or 'unusual'.
The hot air balloon represents 'me' continuing to find my higher self. I've added some symbols (on the balloon) that I feel I have connected with and opened my eyes to after each experience I have had. The moon is about how I now study moon cycles and how they effect us a lot; and I feel I wouldn't have done that if certain things in my life hadn't happened. I've always felt very connected to the moon so felt it was important to add this. I've put a lotus flower on because it feels like a new beginning after new experiences happen. The mandala on the balloon, to me, means everything is connected in some way whether that's spiritual or everyday life, situations to meanings or just more general things. The tree of life symbol shows that every experience helps me to grow and become self aware. The third eye on the balloon shows how I feel that all my experiences is an opening of higher consciousness.
